Have You Been Told to "Spend Down" or "Reduce Resources"?
Many people throw away thousands of dollars due to ignorance and bad advice. "Reducing Resources" is what ALTCS now calls "spending down". In other words, they are saying "You have too much money so come back when you've spent it all." For single applicants a spend down on care costs is sometimes a practical choice. For married couples it is often not the best option. ALTCS will not tell you that their policy may allow you options to preserve some or all of your hard earned resources and get approved sooner. Giving your money away within five years of applying will result in a transfer penalty, so beware. Spending down may work, but other policy options may benefit you and your family much more, and speed up your approval. Why do so many people make the awful mistake of not considering all of their options before spending down? ALTCS personnel are trained to not explain such policy options. They may also incorrectly calculate your resource total. Many ALTCS "help" websites and "experts" just don't know ALTCS policy well enough to catch such mistakes. We know ALTCS policy very well, and we will make sure you avoid such costly errors and tell you how ALTCS policy works for you.
